Hi! My name is Justin Scott, and I work on improving the add-ons experience at Mozilla. I usually blog about Firefox add-ons and web development.
a little about me
I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and acquired the nickname “fligtar” after my first character’s name in the MMORPG EverQuest back in 2001.
I started using Firefox in 2004 and shortly afterwards wrote my first extension. I began volunteering with the Mozilla Add-ons website in early 2006, with no idea it would eventually become my full-time job. I worked for Mozilla part-time while attending Louisiana State University and learning about zombies. After graduation in 2008, I made the move to the San Francisco Bay Area so that I could be made fun of for my pronunciation of ‘pen’ and using words like ‘putt putt’ instead of ‘minigolf’ and ‘fixing’ instead of ‘getting ready’.
As Add-ons Product Manager, I primarily work on the add-ons website and other special projects with the rest of the add-ons team to keep Firefox the most customizable browser with the largest selection of add-ons built by thousands of community members who love Firefox. *phew*
things I’ve made
I started coding in middle school, so I’ve managed to rack up a lot of personal projects, some still in use and others that never saw the light of day. A couple that I still try to make time for are listed below.
- Password Exporter
- An add-on for Firefox and Thunderbird that can export and import your saved usernames and passwords for transferring between computers or backing up. More than 1.4 million downloads and 220,000 daily users.
- FavLoc
- An add-on for Firefox that adds custom save locations to the context menu, file menu, and download dialog. More than 85,000 downloads and 8,000 daily users.
